I imagine any level of human curation could explain some of those very different outcomes you saw, but, I agree, there’s no excuse for not bumping dead podcasts with few episodes and ratings. That’s a bad experience for podcast listeners.
I suppose we can be glad that the podcast submission process has been improved over time. At least that way you could get a show listed and then just not pay further attention if you didn’t want to bother. It’d be like staying of Twitter or Facebook though.
