Yeah — the point about shipping is intimidating, but totally makes sense! Marc was reviewing for product designers who will need to ship great design for high-quality clients, so it’s definitely a real need.

I think it does apply though even beyond product designers. If a UX designer, for example, has case studies showing the results of shipped work, that gives the reviewer a ton more data about how good and trustworthy they are. Same with logo/brand design…how many cases have we seen where a rebrand is rejected by consumers? Even if the outcome is negative in the end, that experience is incredibly valuable for the designers involved, so showing that learning and experience in your portfolio is a huge strength.
